Daniel C. Johnson, M.D., FAAHPM - Director
Daniel Johnson, M.D., FAAHPM is Regional Department Chief of Palliative Care at Kaiser Permanente-Colorado and a practicing physician on the Palliative Care Consult Service at Exempla St. Joseph Hospital in Denver. He serves as clinical faculty at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center and is a Faculty Associate for the Center for Bioethics and Humanities at the University of Colorado.
Dr. Johnson received his bachelor's degree from the Colorado School of Mines and worked as a geophysicist for 8 years prior to completing medical school and residency training at the University of Colorado. He is board certified in both Internal Medicine and Hospice and Palliative Medicine. Dr. Johnson is a Soros Faculty Scholar for the Project on Death in America, an Education for Physicians on End-of-Life Care (EPEC) trainer, and a graduate of the Harvard Program in Palliative Care Education and Practice. Dr. Johnson's publications and research interests include fatigue and symptom management in patients with advanced and terminal illness.
Cheryl A. Siefert, MNM, CPA - Executive Director
Cheryl A. Siefert, Executive Director, holds a Masters degree in Non-Profit Management from Regis University and is a Certified Public Accountant. It was after the devastation of her mother's Alzheimer's disease that premier health educator, Cheryl Siefert, sold her accounting firm and dedicated her life to improving the dignity and quality of life for individuals with life limiting diseases. For nine years, Cheryl A. Siefert served as the Education Services Director at the Colorado Alzheimer's Association. During her tenure, she developed the highly acclaimed Alzheimer's Learning Institute, Police Training Program, and the Caregiving in the Later Stages of Alzheimer's Disease educational series. In 2006, Ms. Siefert joined the Life Quality Institute where she combines her business expertise with her program management and development skills to promote palliative care resources, knowledge, and understanding. A gifted speaker, Cheryl has presented at local, regional, and national seminars on subjects including dementia and palliative care, ethics, advanced directives, and death and dying.
Jane W. Barton, MTS, MASM- Community Educator
Jane serves as the Community Educator for the Life Quality Institute (LQI), an organization originally established by The Denver Hospice. She started working at The Denver Hospice in 2004 as a chaplain intern. Upon completion of her internship in August 2005, Jane accepted a staff position. She has worked as a chaplain, bereavement facilitator, and community educator. In May of 2003, she completed her Master of Theological Studies at Iliff School of Theology in Denver, Colorado. Additionally, in 2008 she completed her Master of Arts in Specialized Ministry (Pastoral Care). She is certified as a spiritual director through the Benedictine Spiritual Formation Program.
In her role as community educator, Jane develops and presents workshops, seminars, and speeches for social and civic groups, academic institutions, faith communities, seminaries, and community, state, and national organizations. Prior to her seminary and hospice work, Jane worked as a petroleum exploration geologist/geological manager for 16 years followed by three years in financial services.
Lindsay Vassar - Program Coordinator
Lindsay received her Bachelor of Arts in Journalism with an emphasis in Public Relations at the University of Oklahoma in 2007. Previously, she worked as Public Relations Coordinator and Graphic Designer for The Allied Health Association and spends her spare time volunteering for a few local non-profits.
Lindsay began working for the Life Quality Institute in the spring of 2009.
